Tingdene respond to concerns after dirty nappies and human excrement found in Fitties woodland
Local residents have expressed their disgust after a video was posted to social media showing human excrement and dirty nappies discarded in the woods opposite Main Road, Humberston Fitties.
Janice De Vear Metson, who filmed the video, told Gi Grimsby News about the residents of the Fitties pleading with Tingdene – the company responsible for the onsite holiday lodges – to provide a communal room and toilet for people to use.
She said: “One of the comments when I posted the video was from a resident on the Fitties who said Tingdene are in charge of the land, and the residents have often pleaded for them to offer some sort of communal room and loo as there is nothing down there.
“I feel pressure should be put on Tingdene as the charges for homeowners on the site are substantial.”
We contacted Tingdene about this, and they responded by saying that they are responsible for a “small area of woodland” at Humberston Fitties, which they said is “maintained regularly”.
They added that in over fifty years of Humberston Fitties’ existence as a holiday home park, there has never been a public toilet facility for residents to use – but that Thorpe Park, which adjoins The Fitties, has plenty.
A spokesperson for the holiday home company said: “Tingdene inherited the Fitties from the local authority and in its 50+ years existence as a holiday home park there has never been a public toilet facility made available for all. The Fitties adjoins Thorpe Park which has a significant number of facilities.
“We can further confirm we have spoken with the local authority in recent months requesting that they replace the portaloo that was located on the sand dunes just off the one-way system which was removed approximately 18 months ago.
“Tingdene cannot be held responsible for the behaviour of individuals who choose not to use appropriate facilities.”
