GTFC fans staying positive following rainy 3-1 Bromley defeat

The winning stint by GTFC came to an end last night after they were defeated 3-1 by Bromley, with 688 loyal Town supporters making the trip to the Hayes Lane ground in South London.

Despite the downpours and three goals from the opposing team in the second half, Mariners fans still managed to stay positive, taking to social media after the match to voice their support for the club.

One fan wrote: “Well we can’t win them all, sometimes things just go against you! We go again Saturday!! With this team, the fight they show and effort they put in we can’t go wrong!”

“One result doesn’t define a season. Onwards and upwards we’re Grimsby Town UTM,” wrote another.

Jason Stockwood, one half of the duo who owns GTFC, also took to Twitter to voice his support.

He wrote: “The rain & wind at Bromley serves as a powerful metaphor for what inevitably we will face this season.

“The trust & hope we are building will remind us to pull up our collars, stand closer together and keep singing until the sun comes out again. Which it will. Onwards.”

In a press conference following the match, Paul Hurst commented: “Obviously I’m disappointed – we’ve got a long journey home to sort of stew on it, and then we go again on Saturday which is the most important thing.

“But again it’s a learning for a group. Obviously there’s a couple of things that have happened during the evening, and how we now react, because it’s the first time we’ve suffered defeat.

“We talked about trying to be ruthless a little bit more as a team. That’s something we’re trying to drill into them about if you’re going to be successful, as a team, and as individuals as well. It’s a hard environment, football, and some of them have come from softer environments, I would suggest.

“I’m disappointed, of course, but at the same time I’m pleased with how the players kept going. I said it was going to be a difficult game – Bromley have done well last season – but we take our medicine and we move on.”
