Funding for solar panels to help reduce energy bills and carbon footprint
North Lincolnshire Council has secured Government funding to provide eligible households with external wall insulation and solar SV panels to reduce energy bills and carbon footprint.
Solar PV panels sit on the roof, and with proper maintenance generate electricity using energy from the sun, even on days when there is no direct sunlight.
A survey of the property will take place to ensure roofs have adequate exposure to sunlight and sufficient strength to support the install of solar panels.
External solid wall insulation not only makes houses energy efficient, but it can keep homes warm, save money on energy bills and comes with a 25-year insurance backed warranty.
Those with a combined household income below £30,000, and a poor energy performance rating could benefit from the scheme.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, external solid wall insulation can save the average household around £225 a year on fuel bills.
To qualify for either scheme, you must live in North Lincolnshire and:
- have a combined household income of £30,000 or less (for the external wall insulation this will be after housing costs have been deducted); and
- live in a property with solid walls with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) in bands D, E, F or G – please note that a new EPC will be provided at point of survey if required.
Eligible homeowners will receive fully funded installs for both solar photovoltaic panels and external wall insulation, whereas landlords will be required to contribute around a third of the total cost.
Funding will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
The council is working in partnership with energy experts YES Energy Solutions to identify qualifying households.
Cllr David Rose, cabinet member for environment and strategic planning, said:
“As a council, we are committed to improving our carbon footprint and have a number of initiatives in place to enable us to do this, including installing LED streetlights and changing to biomass boilers at some of our facilities.
“To ensure our residents are kept safe and well, we have teamed up with YES Energy Solutions to offer eligible households a way to improve their energy efficiency, and ultimately save money on their energy bills.
“If you believe you are eligible, please get in touch to find out more information about both schemes.”
