ShopAppy brings residents and local businesses closer together

Over 50 local businesses from Grimsby and Cleethorpes have signed up to ShopAppy, a new initiative in the form of a free online sales platform for small businesses.

The platform was created by North East Lincolnshire Council and the Coastal Communities Fund.

Following the pandemic, the council are working hard to make it easier for the public to access local businesses and their products.

New customers registering to the platform during the official launch week may win a £5 voucher to use at any of the participating businesses.

This week, October 4-10, multiple digital activities and events will be taking place in Grimsby and Cleethorpes to celebrate the platform – which was introduced back in June – as it officially launches.

Grimsby retailer It Started with a Stitch and Cleethorpes retailer Paint Box will be hosting family-friendly activities throughout the week.

Families will be able to design, colour and create a high street before the designs are placed into a prize draw to win gift vouchers for the retailers hosting the event.

It Started with a Stitch will be holding activities from 9:30am to 4:00pm this week till Sunday 10 October.

Paint Box will also be holding activities from 10:00am to 4:00pm until Saturday 9 October.

Loyal to Loyal will also be spreading the message on social media about how you can support your local businesses.

Rachel Harvey of The Paint Box told NELC: “ShopAppy has been so easy to use and customers love having a good virtual browse.

“The site helps people see why they should make a trip in, but ensures they can get the online convenience they get from the giants, if it’s difficult to come into town in person.”

Gemma Winter, owner of It Started with a Stitch, told NELC: “I’m excited about ShopAppy and that the council is supporting local businesses to be on the platform.

“It will make it easier for customers to buy from their favourite small businesses in a quick and effortless way.

“It is fantastic to see what we have to offer all in one place, which I hope makes people think locally before spending with the big multi-national businesses.”

NEL businesses can still join ShopAppy now and obtain free access to the platform until Thursday 30 June 2022.
