Pool teams across Lincolnshire compete at 2021 national championships
Three of the regional teams from the area tasted glory and became national pool champions for the first time since the organisation’s creation in 2014.
Based on Showman’s Sports Bar on Doncaster Road Scunthorpe, the venue is having to extend their trophy cabinet for the large array of silverware coming back with the 34 players who competed across a gruelling four days.
The Lincolnshire blackball county pool team achieved substantial success this weekend in Burnham-on-Sea at the annual national finals.
Lincolnshire A, captained by Scunthorpe singles champion Ash Ellis and club manager Graham Ladds, blew away Nottinghamshire A 14-3 in the final to win the biggest prize and officially crown Lincolnshire as champions of pool.
The B team won a staggering ten matches to become national champions of their section.
However the final went to a tense decider as Guy Smith won the final frame against Lancashire B.
The over 50s Masters section had to settle for losing a solitary group stage match en route to winning their national title against Bristol.
Lincs found themselves 7-2 down in the final before they went on a blistering run of winning nine of their next ten frames to win 11-8.
The C and Seniors teams also reached the final day of the event after successfully qualifying from their respective three-day group stages.
Unfortunately, both campaigns came to an end in the quarter-finals with the C team lost to West midlands 14-10 and the Seniors lost in a tight decider to Tyne & Wear.
Martin Hazell claimed individual gold becoming the countries masters champion, adding this accolade to his A team and Masters team trophy collection.
