Lindsey Lodge Hospice Action Week paints the town yellow
From October 4 till October 10, Lindsey Lodge celebrated Hospice Action Week turning North Lincolnshire yellow in support of Hospice UK’s national Hospice Care Week.
Hospice Care Week is an annual event that recognises and celebrates Hospice UK and hospice care nationwide.
Throughout the week, hospices, individuals and organisations nationwide got involved in a variety of ways- from taking up challenges to lighting up buildings and donning yellow clothing to raise funds and awareness for hospice care.
In North Lincolnshire, shops turned their windows yellow, yellow themed afternoon tea was served, aprons were made, awareness days were held, yellow was worn and a performance of Yellow Submarine was held by the hospices own Wellbeing patients.
A cycle challenge was held in reception which saw staff and volunteers bike miles to raise funds and awareness for Lindsey Lodge.
Lindsey Lodge Hospice provides care for adults with life-limiting illnesses and aims to provide specialist palliative care for day and inpatients consisting of symptom management, emotional support and end of life care.
They provide a wide range of services including symptom management, physiotherapy and a lymphoedema service, as well as complementary therapy, nursing and practical care, emergency care, end of life care along with bereavement and family support services.
The 29-year-old Hospice has seen a 98% rise in the number of admissions to its vital Inpatient palliative care services in the last five years.
Chief Executive Karen Griffiths said: ” What a fantastic week we had celebrating Hospice Action week, a week where hospices up and down the country celebrate the valuable work that is undertaken and we give thanks to all those involved in making this happen.”
“A special thanks to our staff and volunteers for supporting the week and dressing in yellow throughout the entire week. A big thank you to our patients who were also sporting yellow and were very creative, even planting yellow pansies as part of the craft sessions and a rendition of ‘yellow submarine’ sung in music therapy”
“Our volunteers and catering staff sported yellow aprons made for the occasion and served ‘yellow’ afternoon tea specials. With retail outlets connected through their yellow shop windows, we had some very creative displays showcased- a truly great week for us all and some amazing donations from our local businesses and donors. Well done and thank you everyone –it was great fun and a privilege to be a part of hospice care.”
