Humberside Police promise to protect NHS workers this Christmas

As the festive season approaches, Humberside Police has shared their commitment to ensuring the safety of NHS workers during a period of high demand around Christmas.

Humberside Police have been working alongside counterparts in the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole (NLAG) NHS Trust and the Crown Prosecution Service to draw up a Joint-Working Agreement.

This 6-Point Promise to hospital staff acts as a reassurance that assaults on all NHS workers are taken seriously and that they must be reported to the police.

It is designed to tackle violent and abusive behaviour towards NHS staff.

The agreement lays out the process in dealing with such events, should they occur, and how Humberside Police will work alongside NLAG NHS Trust to ensure an investigation is carried out.

Every year, NLAG Trust staff are physically assaulted whilst at work, assaults are not acceptable and dealing with personal attacks should not be part of an NHS worker’s job.

The six-point promise to NHS workers is as follows:

  • Assaults on NHS staff will be taken seriously and must be reported to the police.
  • The Joint-Working Agreement applies to all NHS workers, including staff not directly employed by the NHS
  • Victims should be given the correct care and support to help them recover
  • The victims’ line manager must ensure that a senior manager, with responsibility in the area where the incident took place, is informed to provide continuity of support.
  • All incidents of violence of abuse towards NHS staff must be reported on DATIX
  • The trust and Humberside Police will work together to ensure that a robust investigation is carried out, with all evidence being secured to achieve a positive outcome for the victim where possible
