Grimsby continue title charge against tricky Solihull Moors

The Mariners are looking to use Friday night’s win against Southend United as a springboard to their title charge as they search another win away at Solihull Moors.

Town’s win on Friday was not a clinical display against a struggling Southend side, who are looking at a third-consecutive relegation battle, but the three points were secured and that could be the foundation of another good run.

With the tentative return of John McAtee, and a new signing in Bristol City forward Sam Bell, fans will be optimistic that the winning ways are coming back to Blundell Park after a barren run of form.

An early Ryan Taylor strike snatched the points last time out, but the score could have easily gone another way and an improved performance is essential to beating a solid Solihull Moors team.

Despite not winning in their last five, they should not be taken lightly and have been knocking on the door of the play-offs all season.

They held League One Wigan Athletic to a goalless draw in the FA Cup just over two weeks ago and played well in defeats to high-flying Notts County and Chesterfield.

Travelling fans should not expect a goal-fest as both sides have scored a combines three goals in their last five games, respectively.

However, they will likely see an exciting debut from new loan signing Sam Bell, who is expected to feature for his new side just a day after meeting his new teammates for the first time.

He offers more pace than other striking options Ryan Taylor and Lenell John-Lewis, so should be a dangerous asset in the last 15 minutes against a tiring opposition defence.

Shaun Pearson shone on Friday so there is no reason for him to lose his spot in the starting XI, while Erico Sousa should also keep his spot after a man of the match performance.

John McAtee will not play the full 90 but may be available from the start, filling a gap only he can seem to fill for the squad just behind Taylor up front.
