Police offering advice to residents following five reported burglaries on Walmsgate Place

Officers from Humberside Police have been visiting houses and offering advice to local residents following five reported burglaries in the Walmsgate area of the Nunsthorpe estate in Grimsby.

Police have been advising people on how they can best protect sheds and garages following the incidents, which officers believe were carried out by a “small group of young people”.

Local Neighbourhood Inspector Martin Hopper said: “Burglary is an incredibly intrusive crime that can leave people feeling vulnerable and scared, even in their own homes, which is why we work hard to bring those responsible to justice.

“In this case we believe there to be a small group of young people involved, who have reportedly been seen wearing dark clothing.

“As part of our crime prevention and reduction objectives we visit the area of each reported burglary, increasing visibility in the area for reassurance and also speaking with neighbours to give bespoke advice, helping them protect their properties.

“We also carry out investigations to help identify those involved and ultimately bring them to justice.

“I would ask anyone with any information that may help our enquiries to call 101 quoting log 381 of 4 November.

“There are steps that you can take to help protect your property. Using high quality locks, hinges, security lighting and cameras are all ways that you can make your outbuilding less appealing to thieves.

“We would always recommend having good quality locks on motorbikes and pedal cycles. If storing valuables such as tools, gardening goods or sports equipment these should be kept in locked storage cupboards to help keep them secure.”
