Christmas comes to Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre
Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre has officially kicked off its festivities in time for the Christmas season.
There’s plenty to get you in the Christmas spirit, from a festive street scene, a 10ft tree to Christmas themed Ross Tiger tours and festive treats in the cafe.
This year a Christmas tree has been erected in the main atrium for people to write a message to lost loved ones which will then be tied to a trawl net alongside the tree.
Free access will only be given to this area for those leaving a message. The Salvation Army and Fishermen’s Mission will also be giving locals the opportunity to make donations. Social distancing rules will apply.
The tree was officially lit by Grimsby’s Port Missioner, Superintendent Suesan Brown of the Fishermen’s Mission, Major Alison Gardner of the Salvation Army, Jane Hyldon-King, Vice Chair of the Friends of Grimsby Fishermen’s Mission and Gill Ross, Chair of the Friends of the Grimsby Fishermen’s Mission.
The Christmas tree has been funded through the Government’s Welcome Back Fund, part of the ERDF funded COVID recovery scheme across the UK.
The popular Galley Cafe will be serving festive winter treats, including delicious mince pies, festive yule log and Stokes of Lincoln hot chocolate, perfect for those wintery afternoons.
