Grimsby woman sentenced to Hospital Order following stabbing

Alexandra Whalley of Selge Way, Grimsby, has been sentenced to a restricted hospital order without limit of time after admitting to wounding with intent to cause Grievous Bodily Harm.

Mrs Whalley, 44, stabbed her partner in the stomach with a large kitchen knife following a row over £10 on Thursday 21 May.

The court heard how Mrs Whalley had been arguing with her husband all day and that at one point Whalley had left the house and told neighbours she had to either “leave this place or stab him”.

On her return to the house, the argument continued before Mrs Whalley attacked her husband with a large kitchen knife, causing a significant wound to his abdomen and damaging his liver.

The argument spilt into the street, prompting concerned neighbours to call an ambulance and flag down a passing PCSO, who detained Mrs Whalley until more officers arrived.

DC Chris Clarke, who led the investigation, said: “This was a pre-meditated and brutal attack that the victim was lucky to survive.

“I would like to thank everyone who got in touch about this incident and particularly the victim for his bravery throughout the investigation.

“Domestic abuse can happen to anyone – no matter their age, gender, sexuality or background.

“What’s important to us is that you know that we will listen and we will do everything we can to support you.

“We know how difficult it can be to come forward but we have a dedicated team of experts who can help you, ensure you’re safe and help you through the process.

“Together, we can also work with other agencies, who can help plan a way forward that works for you and your family.”

Humberside Police urged victims to call them on 101 or – in emergencies – 999 to report domestic abuse.

If you dial 999 but can’t speak, make some noises to let responders know someone’s on the line and then press 55 (if you dial straight away it may not be picked up).

By doing this police will know that you’re on the line but unable to speak.

Responders will be able to hear what’s happening and use information from the call to send help to you.

You can also register your phone to the emergency SMS service by texting ‘YES’ to 999. This service enables you to get in touch with emergency services when you are unable to call.
