Government planning Christmas work from home orders
The government are planning to reintroduce working from home guidance this Christmas as cases of the Omicron variant are rising.
As reported by The Telegraph, Boris Johnson’s government have already modelled the economic effects of working from home.
Current Health Secretary, and former Chancellor, Sajid Javid, has been at the heart of these plans as he has had concerns about the impact on the economy lockdown restrictions have.
The news comes just hours after ITV News obtained footage of a Downing Street staff member laughing about a Christmas Party which reportedly took place last year whilst London was in Tier 3 restrictions.
Yesterday, the first Omicron case was reported in Lincolnshire and the total number in the UK is now 440.
Booster jab bookings have been opened for seven million people aged 40 and over, while the wait time between a second jab and booster has been cut from six months to three.
It is also understood that the cabinet are discussing the possibility of introducing vaccine passports, however the ministers were split on this decision on Tuesday.
Mr Johnson told ministers that there were “early indications” that the Omicron variant spreads quicker than the delta variant.
Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has already urged companies in Scotland to tell their employees to work from home until mid-January, and No.10 are thought to be considering a similar timeline.
