Plan to build solar farm receives support from locals

Plans have been submitted to and are now under consideration at North East Lincolnshire Council to build a solar farm by erecting ground-mounted solar panels.

Set to be built west of Aylesby Lane, Aylesby, the solar farm would generate enough renewable energy to supply the equivalent of more than 27,000 typical homes.

The company behind the solar farm, Aura Power, states in the Ecology and Heritage Considerations Plan that new hedgerows will be planted, “creating a thicker than ‘normal’ agricultural hedge.”

Local residents have shown their support for the new plan, with one stating: “This solar farm is a very good idea. It will provide a local source of low carbon electricity, and seems to provide environmental benefits rather than harms. The community fund will be useful for the local economy too.”

Another resident wrote: “A rapid response to the climate crisis is increasingly needed in this decade; this is humanity’s best chance to stave off the worst impacts of climate change. I strongly support any
and all efforts in Lincolnshire to build hubs for renewable energy and save carbon dioxide from
flooding our atmosphere.”

However, some residents have shared their concerns for the Public Right of Way that sits across the proposed site.

One resident shared: “The proposed site of the solar farm sits across a Public Right of Way. I assume that this footpath will remain accessible at all times, including during the build.”

This concern was shared by another member of the public who wrote: “The public bridleway that dissects the site, running between the south of Healing and Aylesby is a key access way to and from the Wolds AONB and provides a safe alternative to road routes. I would ask for assurances that this route be kept open for the duration of the works.”

These plans are still pending consideration from the council’s Planning Committee and have yet to be finalised.
