Christmas Day weather forecast
The Met Office has released its latest weather forecast, and its bad news for those hoping for a white Christmas!
The latest Met Office update provides predictions for the entire festive period, including conditions on Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.
For many people snow is synonymous with Christmas, however, according to The Met Office, snow is more likely to fall in the UK between January and March than in December.
The last widespread white Christmas in the UK was in 2010, with snow on the ground at 83% of weather stations.
Technically, 2020 was the last white Christmas in the UK, with 6% of weather stations recording snow falling.
This year, forecasts are showing that it’s more likely to be foggy and frosty.
From Friday 17 December, the Met Office has predicted that it will be “mild and cloudy” with dry with light winds.
It is also expected to be much drier in the second half of the month.
According to Sky News’ meteorologist Christopher England: “It’s far too early to give any detailed forecast, but it looks like being mostly dry and settled from Christmas through to New Year.
“There doesn’t seem to be much chance of a white Christmas.”
While hopes appear slim at this state, the Met Office says it can only accurately forecast if snow is likely on any given day up to five days in advance.
