Man summonsed after death of goose

A man is due to appear at Grimsby Magistrates Court following an incident at the Boating Lake, Cleethorpes on October 24 in which a goose was killed.

A video circulated on Facebook back in October which showed a large black van driving into geese at the Boating Lake.

The attack injured five geese and killed one.

Originally Humberside Police shared that they would not be pursuing criminal charges but then changed their minds after members of the public hit back outraged at their decision.

One angry resident stated: “Takes a big man to purposely hurt an animal! I bet he wouldn’t have approached if it were an animal that would fight back.”

According to the force, the driver of the vehicle contacted officers, showing remorse for his actions and offering to make a donation to Cleethorpes Animal Sanctuary.

The 18-year-old has now been summonsed for offences under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and Road Traffic Act 1988.

He will appear at Grimsby Magistrates Court on 10 January 2022.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “Following an appeal for information and extensive enquiries, we can now confirm that a man has been summonsed for offences under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and Road Traffic Act 1988.

“This follows an incident on Sunday 24 October on Kings Road, Cleethorpes, during which a goose was killed.

“An 18-year-old is due to appear at Grimsby Magistrates Court on Monday 10 January 2022.

“We would again like to thank everyone for their support in assisting with our enquiries.”
