Christmas opening times for Grimsby and Immingham rubbish tips
Opening times for Grimsby and Immingham’s rubbish tips are facing some changes in the coming days.
The Christmas season faces a rise in people dumping waste every year.
Community recycling centres in North East Lincolnshire are due to be closed to the public over Christmas.
Tips in both Grimsby and Immingham will be open every day from 8:00pm till 6:00pm.
However, they are due to close on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, the tips will be open from 8:00am till 4:00pm.
Normal opening times will resume fully on Sunday 2 January 2022.
This year, the sites have been decorated with nutcrackers, snowmen, toy trains, Christmas trees and reindeers.
The decorations were all reportedly made using recycled rubbish from the tips.
The staff at the rubbish tips are also hoping to raise more than £10,500 for charity.
They have already raised over £2,850.
Sharon Hunt, operations director at Newlincs Development Ltd, told North East Lincolnshire Council: “Nobody loves Christmas more than our staff. They really know how to put on a show.
“We’re very fortunate to have such generous people visiting the CRCs in Grimsby and Immingham, not just at Christmas but through the year.
“Since July, we’ve supplied 17 defibrillators to local groups in North East Lincolnshire with money raised by our charity bric-a-brac and bike sales, as well as supporting our usual local charities.
“I’d like to thank all the groups who contacted us about putting this life-saving equipment on their premises.
“We’re also donating emergency bleed kits to 13 locations around the borough in support of the Control the Bleed campaign.
“It’s amazing to think we can do all this with items people are throwing away.”
