Covid case rates rise in North Lincolnshire as Omicron spreads

Covid case rates continue to rise in North Lincolnshire with the current rate standing at 467.7 cases per 100,000 people.

In the seven days from Thursday 16 to Wednesday 22 December, 868 people had a confirmed, positive Covid-19 test, an increase of 15.9 percent compared to the previous seven days.

The data comes after news that Covid case rates rose to 106,122 across the UK on Wednesday 22 December alone, alongside 813 hospital admissions and 140 deaths.

The government announced that no Covid restrictions will be put in place before Christmas, but they have not yet decided what rules will be implemented from Boxing Day onwards.

Government data shows that, by the end of Tuesday 21 December, 130, 457 people in North Lincolnshire had been given their first vaccine and 120,618 people had been given their second.

Between Monday 6 and Sunday 12 December, 14 people were admitted into hospital.

The total amount of patients currently in Northern Lincolnshire and Goole hospitals with coronavirus now stands at 56 (as of Tuesday 14 December).

11 of those patients were on a mechanical ventilator.

However, over the last seven days, there have been no deaths within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test, which highlights how the vaccines are successfully decreasing the severity of the virus’ effects when individuals catch it.

To ensure that Covid case rates do not rise further in the following weeks, a new vaccine centre opened in Scunthorpe on Tuesday 21 December.

It is based at The Foundry in Scunthorpe town centre and is accepting walk-ins between 9:00am and 5:00pm on Tuesdays through to Saturdays.
