Family deeply saddened as loved one’s grave is vandalised
A family in Immingham have been left deeply saddened and upset after the grave of their loved one has been mindlessly vandalised.
Michelle Broadway shared on Facebook to the Immingham News Group that her aunties grave had been vandalised less than a week after the funeral at Immingham Cemetery, Mill Lane.
She told Gi Media that the family flowers laid at the grave had been either stolen or destroyed.
Two wreaths laid by the family were stolen from the grave while the rest of the flowers had been ‘absolutely destroyed’ in a horrible act of vandalism.
Michelle’s auntie had been laid to rest on December 17, with all the flowers and cards missing by December 19.
She also shared that cards written by loved ones sharing heartfelt messages had also been taken from the grave alongside the grave marker.
However, some locals suspect that the damage may be the act of deers grazing rather than vandalism.
This is not the first act of vandalism to take place at Immingham Cemetery, as another incident was shared on Facebook back in August.
Vandals wreaked havoc at the cemetery as a number of ornaments were removed from graves and destroyed, flowers pulled out of vases and thrown and crosses pulled from the ground.
Following the incident, a petition was created in a bid to have CCTV installed at the cemetery to keep graves safe from vandals.
In September Immingham Town Council voted unanimously to have CCTV installed at the Cemetery.
A survey will take place to ascertain the most suitable installation and companies will be offered to provide quotes.
Creator of the petition Gary Walker shared the news on the petition, stating: “For those of you that voted and shared the petition thank you so much. This will provide peace of mind for all residents of Immingham who have loved ones buried at Mill Lane.”
