Man rescued from Grimsby Docks

A man was rescued by firefighters after falling into Alexandra Dock from a houseboat on Christmas Day.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service firefighters used specialist equipment in the rescue to save the unknown man from the freezing waters.

Two of the rescuers went into the water at night to fit a lifejacket to the man and take him to safety.

The rescue was carried out at around 10 pm on Christmas day.

Crews attended the emergency in the water under Corporation Road, near the infamous Corporation bridge.

A spokesman for the service said: “An adult male had fallen from a houseboat into the dock.

“Two firefighters in rescue equipment committed into water.”

The spokesman for the service went on to say that the two firefighters in the water were attached using safety lines in case they got into difficulties.

The man was carried back to the quayside after being fitted with a lifejacket.

He was then treated by paramedics.

This rescue comes a month after a drunken man fell into the water and also had to be rescued by firefighters.
