Humberside Police arrest 700 criminals during Operation Yuletide

Humberside Police’s Operation Yuletide, conducted over the Christmas period every year, was a huge success with over 700 people being arrested for numerous offences.

With an increase in crime during the festive period, the force arrested 741 people during Operation Yuletide for crimes such as fraud, drink/drug driving, domestic abuse, sexual offences and burglary.

With more people out of the house and buying expensive gifts, criminals took the opportunity to take advantage of the situation for their own gain.

Deputy Chief Constable Paul Anderson reported: “These types of crimes can affect anyone, particularly our most vulnerable, which is why our approach is to tackle these crimes head on and proactively, aiming to prevent where we can.

“I am pleased to report that the majority of the community has enjoyed the festivities in a safe and responsible way and, more importantly, been able to do so without fear of crime.

“Notably, New Year’s Eve is always extremely busy for us, and I would continue to urge people to behave responsibly, look out for each other, and importantly, call us if you need us.”

Both uniformed and plain-clothes officers will reportedly be patrolling throughout Lincolnshire and the Humber as Operation Yuletide comes to an end in order to dissuade criminals from causing trouble during New Year’s celebrations.

The Deputy Chief Constable added: “I would like to wish everyone a safe and prosperous New Year and do remember, as your police service, we will be there when you need us.”
