By North Lincolnshire parks shortlisted for national award
North Lincolnshire’s parks and gardens have been shortlisted for a national award from environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.
North Lincolnshire Council is just one of three authorities that are in the running for the Love Parks Award 2022.
The award recognises the work that has gone into creating these beautiful environments for locals to enjoy.
The news comes after Sheffield Park in Scunthorpe was awarded Green Flag status near the end of 2021, alongside Scunthorpe’s Central Park, Kingsway Gardens, Woodlands Memorial Gardens and Barton’s Baysgarth Park.
A sensory garden was also opened next to Lindsey Lodge Hospice in Sheffield Park and a baby memorial garden is currently being built in Central Park.
An outdoor gym area is planned for Baysgarth Park as well.
Cllr David Rose, Cabinet Member for Environment, told the council that being shortlisted is ‘a brilliant achievement, though not at all surprising’.
He said: “Everyone can see how our parks have gone from strength to strength over the past few years, as is shown by the fact we now have five Green Flag awards – they just keep getting better and better.
“I would like to congratulate the teams involved, and all the volunteers, who have made our parks such beautiful places to visit and a welcome sanctuary in these difficult times.”
Keep Britain Tidy’s Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton, added: “I would like to congratulate North Lincolnshire Council on being shortlisted for one of our annual awards.
“We know that people want to live in places that are clean and tidy and local authorities have a massive role to play in this and should rightly be recognised for their efforts.
“We are thrilled that so many authorities entered our awards and, again, the standard was incredibly high.
“We look forward to seeing representatives from North Lincolnshire at our awards ceremony in Birmingham in February.”
The award winners will be announced early this year.
