Travel disruption continues amid staff shortages

Bus services across the East Midlands continue to be cancelled amid staff shortages due to Covid.

Stagecoach East Midlands share updates daily on which buses will not be running across the Scunthorpe, Doncaster and Grimsby areas on their social media channels.

Due to the recent surge in Omicron cases nationwide, staff shortages are still continuing across the bus service.

When asked about the reason for the shortage in bus drivers, a spokesperson from Stagecoach East Midlands told Gi Media: “As with many industries across the country, we are continuing to face a short-term staffing situation that is out of our control due to external factors affecting the wider transport and logistics sector.

“As a result, this is having an impact on our bus services in Grimsby and we are having to make some short-term timetable changes to improve the reliability of key services and keep passengers connected across our most popular routes.

“Our team are working incredibly hard given the current circumstances to ensure the vast majority of local services are running, with 98 percent of services in Grimsby continuing to run their journeys.

“We are also taking proactive steps to alleviate the situation by recruiting new drivers and are focused on getting our new team members through our training programmes and on the road as soon as we can.

“We will continue to keep our passengers regularly updated on our website and social media channels, and are working hard to resume our full service as quickly as possible, giving advanced notice of any planned alterations to our services in the meantime. We would like to thank all of our passengers for their patience.”
