What Great Grimsby Day events are planned for this weekend?
Great Grimsby Day, on Saturday 22 January, is an annual event which celebrates the life and history of the town.
The town was originally founded by Vikings in the ninth century, with a population of just two hundred.
Its famous fishing heritage only began to surge when the Docks were built in the 1790s.
The Dock Tower was subsequently constructed in the Victorian era in 1851.
However, the town became a major port after the railway was created back in 1848.
Famous faces who were either born or lived in Grimsby include songwriter Rod Temperton, swimmer Haydn Taylor, actors John Hurt, Patricia Hodge and Cleethorpes-born Michele Dotrice, footballer Duncan McKenzie and many more.
To celebrate the town’s rich history and its people, Great Grimsby Day is set to host some spectacular, fun-filled events over the coming weekend.
