Covid cases rapidly decline in North Lincolnshire

Covid cases in North Lincolnshire are rapidly declining as more people receive vaccinations to combat the wave caused by last month’s Christmas festivities.

The current case rate stands at 1,034.5 cases per 100,000 people.

In the seven days from Thursday 13 to Wednesday 19 January, Covid cases declined with only 1,857 people confirmed to have a positive Covid-19 test, a decrease of -37 percent compared to the previous seven days.

Government data shows that, by the end of Tuesday 18 January, 131,366 people in North Lincolnshire had been given their first vaccine, 122,347 people had been given their second dose and 97,780 people had been given their third.

The council continues to encourage the public to get vaccinated as the jabs have been proven to decrease the effects of Covid, especially after the recent Christmas period.

The news comes after the announcement that face masks will no longer be mandatory in some indoor settings from Thursday 27 January, so it is important that people get protected to prevent another wave from happening.

North Lincolnshire Council and the local NHS are also encouraging residents to download the NHS app.

Dr Faisel Baig, Chair of NHS North Lincolnshire CCG, told North Lincolnshire Council: “Locally we’re urging residents to download this vital app to gain quick access to health care information, at a time most convenient for you.”

He added: “The NHS App provides an alternative to calling your practice for guidance, as you may be able to get information at just the click of a button.”

The hope is that it will take some of the strain off the NHS as more people are being admitted into hospital with Covid.

Despite Covid cases being on the decline, between Monday 3 and Sunday 9 January, 61 people were still admitted into hospital in North Lincolnshire.

Reports suggest that the unvaccinated are eight times more likely to be admitted into hospital compared to those who have been vaccinated.

The total amount of patients currently in Northern Lincolnshire and Goole hospitals with coronavirus now stands at 90 (as of Tuesday 11 January).

However, over the last seven days, there have been eight deaths within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test.
