Grimsby bolster attack with new number nine Tristan Abrahams
The Mariners have signed young striker Tristan Abrahams on loan until the end of the season, becoming the club’s brand new number nine.
A club statement read: “Grimsby Town Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of Carlisle United striker, Tristan Abrahams on loan until the end of the season.”
Abrahams began his career at Leyton Orient, coming through the academy system before signing his first professional deal in 2016.
He went on to make his debut for the club in March 2017 against his future employer Newport County.
the young striker showed enough promise to be signed by current then-Championship side Norwich City in the Summer of 2017 before being sent out on loan to Exeter and Yeovil while at Carrow Road.
He signed for Welsh side Newport County after two years at Norwich and would go on to make 74 appearances for The Exiles, scoring 18 goals.
Abrahams then signed for parent club Carlisle United on a two-year deal in June 2021 and has made 27 appearances for The Blues this season, scoring four goals and reunites with teammates David Longe-King and Ryan Taylor from their time together at Newport.
Speaking to GTTV, he said: “I’m buzzing, it’s been in the process for about a week or so now, it was a great opportunity for me to come down and play more football. I have played against Grimsby a few times in the League and I know that it’s a big club. I think there was a lack of opportunity towards the back end of my spell at Carlisle, I just want to play as many games as possible.
“I know Michee [Efete] and David [Longe-King], so I spoke to those lads before I came here, Ryan Taylor actually messaged me before and said there was a bit of interest there so with that, I thought to myself it was a great opportunity to join a big club and it’s good that I know a few of the boys.
“I actually follow the National League quite well, so I know that the boys got off to a flying start, we have taken a bit of a dip in form but we just have to move back up the table again and I hope to help make that happen and to be a part of that so the boys can kick on”.
Manager Paul Hurst echoed sentiments of excitement at his loan move, telling GTTV: “He’s a centre forward that people have been wanting us to bring in.
“He’s different to what we have got, he adds a bit of pace and power, he knows a few of the boys which will help him settle in nice and easy and he is someone whose career, by his own admission has just stuttered a little bit, so hopefully, he can kick start here with us and I am looking forward to handing him that Town shirt!”.
Abrahams will wear the infamous number nine shirt for the Mariners and could make his debut in Saturday’s clash with Bromley.
