Downing Street police give ‘extremely damning’ evidence

Police officers who were guarding the scene at Downing Street when a number of lockdown-breaking parties are alleged to have taken place have provided testimonies to Sue Gray’s ongoing investigation.

According to a report by The Telegraph, their statements are said to be ‘extremely damning’.

They are expected to form a vital part of Ms Gray’s report.

Today, she is set to speak to former Number 10 aide Dominic Cummings about the events.

Mr Cummings has become a major critic of Boris Johnson since his resignation in November.

Despite Boris Johnson facing mounting pressure to resign, most Tory MPs have said they will wait for the investigation’s findings before decising whether to push for a vote of no confidence.

Others have indicated plans to submit letters of no confidence regardless.

This comes after the prime minister admitted attending a “bring your own booze” party in the Downing Street garden in May 2020 during the first lockdown.

He claimed he thought it was a ‘work event’.

Sue Gray’s much-anticipated report into the parties is expected to be published this week.
