Prince Andrew denies he was close with Ghislaine Maxwell
In the latest update in the ongoing Prince Andrew sex scandal, the Duke of York has denied claims that he was a close friend of convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell.
In a legal response to Virginia Giuffre, who is suing him for sexual assault, he has now requested to go before a jury.
According to Ms Giuffre, Prince Andrew assaulted her when she was 17.
Multiple incidents are said to have occurred at homes owned by Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein.
But now, in a court document filed this week, Prince Andrew alleges that although he did meet Epstein “in or around 1999”, he did not participate in any abuse.
The Duke of York’s legal team have even pushed back a widely circulated photograph featuring Prince Andrew, Virginia Giuffre and Ghislaine Maxwell, as evidence of them having ever met.
His legal team said: “Prince Andrew lacks sufficient information to admit or deny the allegation that there exists photographic evidence of his alleged meeting with Giuffre.”
He has consistently denied all the allegations against him.
Updates to follow.
