Walk-in Covid jabs to be available at Blundell Park

The home of the Mighty Mariners will become a temporary walk-in vaccination point for people still needing their full three doses.

Coinciding with Grimsby’s home game to Wealdstone on Saturday 29 January, walk-in Pfizer jabs will be available, no appointment needed, between 1pm and 5:30pm.

It is open for anyone over the age of 16 still looking for their booster jab, or even their first or second doses.

The vaccination team will be seen via the entrance next to the ‘Executive Entrance’, which is across the main club car park directly behind McDonald’s.

It is the latest push for young people to get vaccinated, as crucial school hours are being missed through mandatory isolation periods.

North East Lincolnshire Acting Director of Public Health, Geoff Barnes, wanted to stress how important getting the vaccine is for everyone, especially with the country coming out of ‘Plan B‘ restrictions.

“With schools now well into the new term, North East Lincolnshire is starting to see a rise again in cases amongst children, which is inevitably spreading to their parents and older relatives,” Mr Barnes explained.

“All the figures suggest that whilst the Omicron variant is less severe in its symptoms it does still pose a significant risk to older and more vulnerable people. That alone is a vital reason for everyone to be fully vaccinated.

“Whether it’s your first, second or booster dose, we urge you to go along either on Saturday or to one of the many clinics,” he added.

Booster jabs are now available for anyone over 16, three months after having the second dose.

The first and second vaccines should be the same, however the booster can be different, so anyone can get the Pfizer booster on Saturday, regardless of what vaccine they’ve had for the first two doses.
