Grimsby shoppers have their say on mask-wearing
As Plan B restrictions came to an end yesterday, Thursday 27 January, several Grimsby shoppers have revealed their views on mask-wearing.
When locals were asked by Gi Media if they would continue to wear face masks – despite the end of restrictions – there were mixed responses.
Some believed that mask-wearing was up to the individual, whilst others expressed that everybody should wear them or else they become ineffective.
One commenter wrote: “I’ll still wear mine but what the others do [is] up to them, their choice.”
Another said that they will wear theirs in “crowded places and shops” only.
Meanwhile, many expressed their dislike of mask-wearing and that they were glad to be rid of them.
One person commented: “Never worn one unless it was highly enforced, for example hospital appointments, doctors etc.”
With regards to continuing to wear face masks, another simply wrote: “Not a chance.”
Coming from a alternative perspective, one person brought attention to the disabled, expressing the importance of mask-wearing to keep safe and protect those who cannot receive the vaccine themselves.
Thousands of disabled people across the nation have been forced into isolation for almost two years as catching the virus for them may lead to extreme consequences and even death.
Another woman expressed a similar opinion on mask-wearing, commenting that she would continue to wear her face mask as she has “vulnerable people in [her] family to protect”.
In response to Sainsbury’s continuing to ask their staff and customers to wear face masks after restrictions end, one Grimsby local said: “No, I’ll keep my distance but not wear a mask.”
However, another person expressed how, to gain maximum protection, everybody must wear face masks, not just a select few.
She wrote: “If you wear a mask it protects others.. if others wear them [then it] protects you, so not much point if all not wearing them, but if it makes a person feel better wearing them then that’s up to them.”
What is your opinion on mask-wearing despite how Plan B restrictions have ended?
