Mason Greenwood further arrested for two more offences

Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood has been further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and making threats to kill.

Greenwood, 20, was initially arrested on suspicion of rape and assault on Sunday 30 January by Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

It was announced that he was being held for additional questioning earlier today, Tuesday 1 February, and that he will remain in custody until Wednesday 2 February.

His time in custody was extended by three days as investigations continue.

Mason Greenwood was arrested after images and videos were posted to social media, showing a man being threatening a woman.

The account was deleted shortly after.

GMP previously said: “Inquiries are ongoing and the victim is being offered specialist support.”

Greenwood only recently signed a four-year deal with Manchester United in February 2021.

The footballer will reportedly not be playing for the club until further notice.

The club added that they “do not condone violence of any kind”.

Additionally, Nike suspended their relationship with the footballer.

In a statement, they said: “We have suspended our relationship with Mason Greenwood.

“We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation.”

Updates to follow.
