Take a stroll through Grimsby’s Time Trap
The infamous ‘Time Trap’ located at the Town Hall in Grimsby invites the public to take a stroll through the past.
Grimsby’s fishing and local heritage is captured in displays decorated throughout the winding route.
Visitors can learn about life in the area and immerse themselves into the fascinating history.
The museum is located inside the Town Hall chambers and is open to the public.
The attraction provides a glimpse into the past life of Grimsby and Cleethorpes from the town’s creation through to the present day.
Inside the attraction you are surrounded by displays showcasing what life was like in the Victorian age and the Industrial Revolution.
It also features information on the ‘Grimsby Volunteers’, which were a local militia formed in response to a Napoleonic invasion.
A display on epidemics in the local area referencing the 1875 Public Health Act, mirroring today to the past.
The signs also take you to the stone thrown in the August 1st 1877 riot of Grimsby: “This stone was thrown through the centre window of the coffee room Royal Hotel, Grimsby”.
Featured as you walk around the winding staircase are various shop mock-ups, giving a feel of a bustling old town Grimsby industry.
The room is decorated with various historical agricultural and industrial shop signs.
A section of the gallery is dedicated to the rise of football, giving information on Grimsby Town Football Club being formed in 1879.
As you enter the attraction the layout is reminiscent of an old time Cleethorpes seaside resort, decorated with lifelike models dotted throughout the attraction.
The Time Trap museum offers a first-hand look at life before, allowing you to walk amongst history.
The museum is open Monday till Friday 10am – 4pm.
An adult ticket costs £3, a child or senior costs £2 and under five’s go free.
