Burglar attempts to ‘wash away’ evidence

Humberside Police recently revealed that a burglar attempted to ‘wash away’ the evidence of their crimes by driving their van into a car wash.

Officers in Hull tracked the van into Scunthorpe after the burglary.

In their attempt to evade the police, they reportedly drove through a petrol station forecourt before abandoning the vehicle at the car wash’s entrance.

He fled on foot but to no avail.

Officers instantly caught and arrested the man for burglary.

He was also arrested for driving whilst disqualified and for possession of a class B drug.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police (Hull) said: “What may look like a queue for the car wash, was actually an abandoned van linked to a recent Commercial Burglary in the Hull area.

“[They were] spotted by Team 2 Patrol officers entering Scunthorpe.

“In an attempt to evade officers, they drove through a petrol station forecourt before abandoning the vehicle at the car wash entrance.

“Unfortunately, no car wash is able to scrub away the link to a recent crime.

“[The] occupant of the van fled on foot but wasn’t ‘washing out’ for officers nearby, and was caught and arrested for Burglary, as well as driving whilst disqualified and for possession of Cannabis.”
