Seal rescued from shipwreck on Cleethorpes beach

Yesterday, Cleethorpes Wildlife rescue reponded to calls that a seal had been spotted on Cleethorpes beach.

On arrival, rescuers saw that the seal was stuck on a shipwreck!

As the team got their equipment prepared the tide had already covered the wreckage, but swimming towards the shore was the same seal.

The team noticed that the seal was underweight and was also suffering from an injury to it’s mouth.

After being asessed by the marine medic, the “feisty” seal was transported to Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary.

He has now been named ‘Tidal’ after the difficult tidal rescue, how cute!

Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue shared the brave rescue to their Facebook, stating: “This was one challenging rescue for the team!

“We was contacted about a seal sat in a shipwreck on Cleethorpes Beach.

“We arrived half an hour later with our team and basic water rescue equipment ready to go, by this point the shipwreck had already been covered by the tide, however coming up onto the beach was the seal!

“Upon inspection we noticed it being underweight with an injury to its mouth, after being joined by our marine medic and contacting Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary it was approved to go to their sanctuary.

“It was a LONG and challenging walk back to the car for transport while safely working around the fast incoming tide!

“Back at the car we started the transport to Mablethorpe. Thankfully it was still feisty on arrival and is now getting the rehabilitation care at their sanctuary!

Thank you and well done to Aaron, Lauren, Julz and Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary.

“He’s been called ‘Tidal’ for his difficult tidal rescue!”

This is not the fist difficult seal rescue of the year for the team, as last month they rescued a small seal from Grimsby Town centre.

The seal, named Oreo for his adorable spots, was take to Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary and is expected to make a full recovery.
