Humber Bridge to close to all traffic

In the latest disruption from Storm Eunice the Humber Bridge is now closing to all traffic.

A partial closure was announced this morning but now this situation is becoming too dangerous for motorists to cross.

Last night, The Humber Bridge Board stated that the bridge could “close completely” today as severe weather conditions continue.

The bridge will close from 1:30 pm onwards and the reopening time has not been announed.

The bridge will remain closed for several hours as the storm is expected to batter the UK, especially coastal areas.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area completely until an update is issued.

A spokesperson for the Humber Bridge Board said: “TRAFFIC ALERT Due to very high winds forecast later today, we have taken the decision to close the Humber Bridge to all traffic from 1.30pm today.

“Although we cannot say exactly when it will reopen, it is likely to remain closed for several hours. Please avoid the area completely until further notice. We will update our website and social media in due course.”

A spokesperson has also confirmed the footways have now been closed in both directions.

Millions of people have been urged to stay indoors today as winds of up to 110 mph could pose a risk to life.
