Officers were called to Donna Nook Road in North Somercotes at 6:21pm on Saturday 19 February following reports of a large fire, the cause of which is now thought to have been a faulty wood burner.

Steve Vickers, pictured above, suffered injuries to his leg trying to help those who had become trapped inside the caravan.

Speaking to Gi Grimsby News, Steve explained how he and his partner has spotted the blaze from their neighbouring residence before rushing over to help.

He said: “I managed to get in but but by then it was too late, just smoke filled and obviously nothing you could do at all.

“If I hadn’t gone in, he [the injured man] wouldn’t have made it out alive.”

Steve was treated at hospital as a result of his injuries.

A 61-year-old woman was sadly confirmed to have died as a result of the blaze.

Two other men, including Mr Vickers, were injured.

In a statement issued yesterday, a spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “We are on scene following a fatal caravan fire where a 61-year-old woman has sadly died.

“We were called to the fire at Poplar Farm in Donna Nook Road, North Somercotes, at 18.21pm last night (Saturday 19 February) by colleagues at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue.

“A man in his 60s was also in the caravan and was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries, and one further man who was not in the caravan suffered an injury to his leg trying to help.

“We have launched an investigation and are currently treating this death as unexplained.

“We will remain on the scene until at least tomorrow.”

The latest update reads: “Our initial investigations are complete and we are satisfied there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.

“A file will be prepared and passed over to the coroner.”

Our thoughts are with the families of those involved at this difficult time.
