PM announces end of legal restrictions in England
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced the end to all legal COVID restrictions in England as of Thursday.
Included in the measures set to be scrapped is the self-isolation requirement for those who have tested positive for the virus.
As such, the £500 isolation payment for people on low incomes will end this week.
According to the PM, free mass lateral flow testing is also set to end on 1 April, Boris Johnson has said.
From 1 April, he said the provision of free rapid testing would be targeted to certain sections of the population.
Boris Johnson told the House of Commons that the efforts and sacrifices the country had made over the past two years meant it was now ready to move away from government restrictions.
He called the decision a move towards a “position of personal responsibility.”
