England will not play Russia in ANY international football matches
England will not play against Russia in international football matches for the “foreseeable future”, the FA have announced.
The news follows confirmation that Russia would not be able to compete at this year’s Eurovision.
The cancellation of the Russian Grand Prix, due to be hosted in Sochi has also rendered Russia out of another global competition.
In a statement, the Football Association said:
“Out of solidarity with Ukraine and to wholeheartedly condemn the atrocities being committed by the Russian leadership, the FA can confirm that we won’t play against Russia in any international fixtures for the foreseeable future”.
“This includes any potential match at any level of senior, age group or para football”, they added.
Poland have announced their national team would not play their World Cup play-off match against the Russia.
Sweden and the Czech Republic have joined England and Poland, refusing to play Russia at any venue.
Following the FA’s announcement, FIFA has made a public statement, reiterating the condemnation of Russian aggression in Ukraine and issuing ‘new’ terms for Russian, international football.
According to FIFA, International competitions shall not be permitted on Russian soil.
Russian home matches which will be played at a “neutral” stadium, without spectators.
The Russian national team will be re-named “Football Union of Russia (RFU)”
Russian Flags and the national anthem of Russia will not be permitted.
