Sainsbury’s cafes to close in Grimsby and Scunthorpe
Sainsbury’s have announced they will close cafes in Grimsby and Scunthorpe stores.
In store cafes at Sainsbury’s across Grimsby and Scunthorpe will close for good next month.
The move will see 200 cafes, 34 hot food counters and 54 bakeries close across the UK.
The announcement is part of the national shake-up by the supermarket chain.
It is reported that around 2,000 jobs could be at risk.
A new initiative coined “The Restaurant Hub” will be implemented, offering customers a range of foods you can eat-in, take away and even have delivered.
30 in-store Starbucks outlets have also been announced for Sainsbury’s over the coming year.
Only 67 in-store cafes are set to remain open, under review, Sky News has said.
Simon Roberts, Sainsbury’s chief executive officer said: “We are totally focused on improving what we can deliver for our customers and at the same time, working hard to make our business simpler”
“As we go through this period of transition, we have taken the difficult decision to close 200 of our cafes next month”, he added.
“We have spoken to all colleagues affected by these changes today and are absolutely committed to supporting them in any way we can during this uncertain time.
“Of course, we understand this is very unsettling for our colleagues, but we must keep adapting our business to make sure we are offering customers the best possible food and drink at affordable prices.”
