Grimsby community unites to support Ukraine
Long queues have been spotted outside schools and community centres across North East Lincolnshire as hundreds rally round to donate supplies to send to Ukraine.
Over a million people have fled Ukraine to neighbouring countries since the invasion began.
A spokesperson for the UK Refugee Agency said “the situation looks set to become Europe’s largest refugee crisis this century”.
Now, organisers of a donation drive in Cleethorpes say they are “blown-away and overwhelmed” by the generosity of the community and by the eagerness people have shown to help those who have been displaced.
Matt Stinson, MD at Gi Grimsby News, and two fellow ex-servicemen are scheduled to set off on the 23 hour journey to the Ukrainian-Polish border on Wednesday morning.
The team asked for essential donations including nappies, wipes, toiletries, food, and powdered milk.
Mr Stinson said: “This just feels the right thing to do. If we were going through something like this, we would want someone to do the same.
“I can’t believe the support people are offering for appeals around the area.
“It’s so emotional how passionate people are to help, I’m not sure I will keep it together when we get there!”
Anyone wishing to make donations can do so at Harrison House, Navigo House, or Weelsby View before the morning of Tuesday the 8th of March.
Monetary donations can also be made via Emma Louise Kosakowska’s GoFundMe page.
