One Cleethorpes project dormant despite approval
The controversial One Cleethorpes project was first approved back in 2018, but there has been little update since.
When, or indeed if it, is built the development could see Cleethorpes’ skyline dramatically altered.
The development, which is planned for the former Clifton Bingo Hall on Grant Street, is comprised of three huge buildings housing apartments, commercial and retail spaces.
The proposal also includes an underground car park which could present a solution to the ongoing struggle for parking across the resort.
According to the planning application, which was submitted jointly by Bell Cornwell and Cielo Realty Ltd, the site would include three buildings of 30, 33, and 36 apartments as well as “commercial and retail spaces on the ground level and an underground car park.”
It continues: “It’s a short walk from the main shopping area, close to the promenade, pier, and seaside activities.”
“Redevelopment of this site will be a transformational project that provides a viable mix of long-term economic and community benefits.
“By providing resources and amenities for both locals and tourists, it will help regenerate the seafront and provide a new gateway entrance to the town.”
But the project proved controversial from the very beginning.
It attracted a number of objections with residents branding it “totally out of character with the rest of the area.”
Councillor Debbie Rodwell also raised concerns at the time.
The project was approved despite mounting objections, but has failed to materialise.
Now, with the newly published Cleethorpes Masterplan, many are wondering whether the project will ever go ahead.
Bell Cornwell, Cielo Realty Ltd, and North East Lincolnshire Council have been contacted for a statement.
Updates to follow.
