Petrol prices soar across Northern Lincolnshire

Petrol prices have soared across Northern Lincolnshire following the current invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces.

Russia is one of the world’s largest petrol suppliers, leading to larger petrol retailers being accused of ‘profiteering.’

In some petrol pumps across Grimsby and Cleethorpes, the price of petrol has risen by two pence in the last two days.

Sainsbury’s price of petrol has risen, with petrol increasing by two pence whilst diesel prices have increased by three pence from Sunday.

Petrol now costs 149.9 pence per litre and diesel is now 154.9 pence per litre.

Morrisons have also seen an increase in prices, with both petrol and diesel going up by 2.2 pence.

Diesel has risen from 153.5 per litre to 155.7 and petrol has risen just as quickly from 149.5 to 151.7 pence per litre.

Sole petrol retailers have also seen a rise in prices across the board.

Jet, on Cromwell Road, has risen by one penny across both fuels over the past two days.

Petrol and diesel now cost 153.9 and 157.9 pence respectively having cost 152.9 and 156.9 on Sunday.

Some stations across the region have kept the same prices, including both supermarkets and petrol stations.

As tensions continue and more sanctions are placed on Russia the price of petrol could continue to rise.

According to the AA, average UK petrol prices now sit at 155 pence.

The latest rise in UK petrol prices has pushed the cost to more than £7 a gallon, the AA said.

Filling up a car with a 55-litre tank now costs nearly £17 more than a year ago, rising from £68.60 to £85.59.

Some campaigners have warned that prices could hit £2 per litre within the next two weeks.

RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said: “Another day of record average pump price highs is putting petrol on a rapid journey towards 160p a litre and diesel to 165p.

“And as these are averages, far higher prices will be appearing on forecourt totems up and down the country.”
