Cleethorpes lights up with new artwork

A new permanent art installation created by award-winning artist Esther Rolinson has been unveiled on the North Promenade in Cleethorpes.

The new ‘Luminations’ installation officially opened last night.

Around 500-metres of colourful lights now span the promenade.

Rolinson’s multimedia artworks have been described as exploring our “sensory experiences that connect us to each other and the landscape.”

Esther Rolinson said: “Luminations is about that instant when you are on the big dipper and gravity loses its grip on you, when for a moment you are released from you cares.

“It is a celebration of those ecstatic feelings of freedom that dwell somewhere inside all of us.”

Councillor Philip Jackson, leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, added: “This is a fantastic piece of artwork which has already seen a lot of admiration from local people already during the installation.

“The North Prom is a unique place, and work we’re doing with the Cleethorpes Masterplan will serve to enhance this area even further in the future.”

The Luminations will be lit up every day from before sunset until midnight and then from before dawn until sunrise.

The display is funded by a £3.8m grant from the Coastal Communities Fund.

It is the final piece of public art set to be installed on the North Prom as part of the project.

Artworks already in place include the exercise furniture, and the shutter art.
