Grimsby council hands out 6,000 litter and parking fines
6,000 people across North East Lincolnshire were given fines and fixed penalty notices within the past year.
The fines were issued for littering, parking and dog or cycling related incidents.
Councillor Steve Beasant said issuing fines for people “abusing” their local communities will prevent residents from engaging in such activities.
Mr Beasant has called for additional enforcement officers to keep Grimsby tidy, the Lincolnite have reported.
“My fellow war councillors and I have been campaigning for years for a cleaner and greener East Marsh”, councillor Beasant said.
“Enforcement is one of the best tools we have to do that”, he added.
“Fines do work in deterring people. If anything, we need more enforcement officers”
EQUANS, North East Lincolnshire Council’s working partner, issued 4,855 parking fines between 2020/21.
According to the Lincolnite, the latest figures are around half the number of fines issued throughout a “typical” year, the pandemic a likely cause.
Officers for LA Support issued 865 fines for littering.
An additional 553 fines were issued for breaches of Public Space Protection Orders.
638 people were taken to court after they failed to pay their fines.
