Council says Ukrainian flag is ‘on the way’

North East Lincolnshire Council has confirmed that it has plans to install a Ukrainian flag at Grimsby Town Hall.

This comes as the council faces growing criticism for its response to the crisis.

Now, the authority has confirmed that it has been attempting to obtain a flag in line with the tributes paid by other councils across the nation.

Speaking at a full meeting of the council, Mayor David Hasthorpe said:

“The fact that a Ukraine flag isn’t flying over the town hall should not be taken as a sign of disregard to the plight of victims.

“A flag has been on order for several weeks, but there is a shortage of those colours.”

The council also said it is on hand to do “all it can” to support those affected by the crisis.

It says it is working to co-ordinate deliveries of supplies to Ukraine and working alongside local landlords to make properties available for refugees.

Information on how to make donations or sponsor a refugee can be found on the North East Lincolnshire Council website.
