Grimsby Borough crowned league champions
Grimsby Borough Football Club have been crowned champions of the NCEL.
The Borough was confirmed league champions after their triumphant victory over Maltby Main yesterday.
Grimsby went into the match knowing a win or draw would guarantee that they would lift the trophy after a fantastic season, and they did not mess around!
Borough skipper, Jack Debnam bagged himself a brace whilst Adam Drury belted home a screamer to secure all three points and the league title.
The now NCEL league champions spent most of the season unbeaten, winning 26 of their 36 fixtures and accumulating 84 points with two games left to play.
After their 3-0 rampage over Maltby, Grimsby took to social media to express their joys and celebrate with fans.
In a post, the Borough simply wrote: “It’s done, what an achievement”
Hundreds of ecstatic fans were quick to congratulate the football club, one user said:
“Well done lads, a great season and well deserved”
“Amazing achievement. Well done to everyone involved”, another added.
“Well done lads, 19 years after runners-up in the Lincolnshire League, you’re now champions”
