Better care could have saved hundreds of babies
The BBC has reported over 200 babies could have survived had better maternity care been provided.
According to reports, “dozens” of children had also suffered life changing injuries, a direct result of inadequate treatment provided by the Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust.
The BBC said mothers had also died or sustained injuries under the Trust’s care.
The Trust had said they take “full responsibility” for the failures committed by the Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust.
It is understood that “significant or major” concerns relating to the Trusts maternity care were seen within 201 deaths, 313 stillbirths and 70 neonatal deaths.
The BBC understands most of these deaths are from 2000 to 2019.
The full report about the maternity care issued by the Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust will be released tomorrow.
Updates to follow.
