Stolen sculptures returned to Weelsby Woods

Three sculptures which were reported as stolen last week have now been returned to their home in Weelsby Woods, it has been confirmed.

An investigation was quickly launched after the sculptures were damaged and taken from the park on the 26th of March.

Locals responded with outrage, labelling the incident a “mindless” and “abhorrent act of vandalism”.

Fortunately, Humberside Police soon discovered the sculptures hidden in a residential garden in Grimsby.

A number of arrests have now been made in connection with the incident.

In an updated statement a spokesperson for the Friends of Weelsby Woods, the group which manages the park, said:

“The friends of Weelsby Woods didn’t expect to see the carvings again, we are absolutely elated to have them back, and know that the police have people in custody too.

“Rachel Rabbit and Vivien Vixen need a bit of TLC but look like they can be hopefully reinstalled, the group are having a meeting next week to discuss our options regarding poor Ollie Owl.”
