Businesses suffer ‘major blow’ as Toll Bar disruption continues

The owners of several local businesses have complained that the ongoing road works at Toll Bar roundabout are having a negative impact on trade.

The roundabout has been the object of much controversy for several years and is continuing to cause issues for motorists.

Works first began back in 2020, but now new roadworks relating to a nearby housing development have sparked fresh complaints from motorists and businesses alike.

A number of business owners have expressed serious concerns regarding how adverse traffic conditions are affecting them.

Speaking via Facebook, the owner of Waltham Unypart LTD wrote:

“The council has done it again! 4-way traffic lights at Toll Bar so a private company can build houses that no one can afford!

“Not much traffic coming through Waltham as a result so trade suffers for all local businesses – support local businesses and trades at this difficult time we are here for you as long as you use us!

“A big thank you to all our customers who have kept us open with their continued support!”

He went on to explain how an increase in temporary lights close to the shop had created serious issues for passing trade:

“Most people coming to a motor shop tend to be in a car,” he said.

“Times are difficult enough at the moment without additional problems putting people off travelling to us!”

Another concerned business owner who wished to remain anonymous branded the works a ‘major blow’.

They explained how the impact of the roadworks on trade had become so significant that they had considered relocating.
