The Barge restaurant to close from this Saturday
The Barge will be closing its kitchen from this Saturday until further notice due to Covid and rising costs.
The venue situated on the River Freshney announced the news via social media earlier today, but reassured customers that the bar would remain open as normal.
They added that the decision was down to covid and the rising costs, stating that it would be unfair to customers to raise the price of their meals.
Sharing the news they said: “People of the Barge! THE BAR IS STAYING OPEN. BUT It is with a heavy heart that our kitchen will be closing this Saturday at tea time.
“Covid and the cost of operating the food service has finally caught up with us. It would be unfair to put all the price increases that we are experiencing onto loyal customers.
“We are stepping back from the food service for a little while to re-evaluate the situation. It is genuinely difficult for all of us and we will be back at some point. Love from The Barge and all her crew.”
Many were sad the hear the news, offering their support and sharing their love for the establishment.
One wrote: “Oh no! Such a shame. Me and my daughter love coming for a bite to eat. Hope you can get it back up and running at some point.”
Another Wrote: “Gutted, best food around in town. Definitely won’t stop coming for drinks though.”
Some added they wouldn’t mind prices being hiked, stating: “That’s a shame the foods amazing I would be quite happy to pay more for a meal.”
