First fox cub of the year collected from Grimsby Blue Cross!

Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue has collected its first fox cub of the year from Grimsby Blue Cross.

The sweet little cub was brought in by a member of the public after they mistook it for a puppy wandering the streets.

Sadly, the cub had become lost and weak and was unlikely to survive without expert care.

After being taken to the Blue Cross for immediate attention, Cleethorpes Wildlife took over to provide ongoing care for the little cub.

After treating injuries on her head, the team will help the baby vixen get her strength back up before moving her to a no-human contact facility so she will be ready to go back into the wild.

Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue said: “Our first cub of the year has been collected from Grimsby Blue Cross animal hospital!

“This sweet vixen (female fox) was mistaken by a member of the public for a puppy wandering the streets, however, this ended up being a good thing as this little cub had become lost, weak, and would’ve been unlikely to have survived the night without their intervention.

“She was taken by a member of the public to Grimsby Blue Cross for immediate support, who then called our team for ongoing care.

“There are a few injuries to her head and ear that will be cared for while in our rescue and currently, our main focus is getting her strength up in one of our intensive care incubators by Brinsea Products Ltd which was amazingly donated by Ørsted.

“In most cases, fox cubs do not need any intervention and should be left alone unless advised otherwise by a rescue, vet centre or the cub is in immediate danger – If you ever have any concerns don’t be afraid to seek advice and get photos of the animal/situation to send on if you can! It’s also important to note that foxes are a lot better being kept wild so rescue intervention must always be a last resort to ensure their future.

“She will need hands-on care for now and then she will be moved into a no-human contact facility to ensure her wild instincts stay intact.”
